The Sulcata tortoise, also known as the African spurred tortoise, is one of the largest tortoise species in the world! Native to the dry grasslands and savannas of Africa, these gentle giants are known for their thick, sturdy shells, powerful legs, and impressive digging skills. Sulcata tortoises are herbivores, spending much of their time grazing on grasses and other vegetation. They can live for 70 years or more and can grow to weigh over 100 pounds!
