The guanaco is a graceful camelid native to the mountains and grasslands of South America and is the wild ancestor of the domesticated llama. These agile herbivores are well adapted to rugged terrain and can run up to 35 miles per hour. Their thick coats protect them from harsh weather, while their keen eyesight helps them detect predators from long distances.
