Despite their large size, hippopotamuses are surprisingly agile and spend much of their day relaxing in the water to stay cool. They emerge in the evening to graze on grasses and can consume up to 80 pounds of vegetation in a single night. Their powerful jaws and impressive size make them one of Africa’s most iconic animals.
