Despite its name, the maned wolf is neither a true wolf nor a fox. Native to the grasslands of South America, its long legs help it see over tall vegetation while hunting. Maned wolves are omnivores and are known for eating fruit—especially the “wolf apple”—along with small animals, making them an important part of their ecosystem.
